If I had to list the most common exercises I see performed incorrectly, the basic back squat would be at the very top of the list. But other than technique of the exercise itself, something people really tend to pay little attention to is the actual set up of the movement.
How you position yourself under the bar and walk it out can make a big difference in how your lift goes. Below is an excellent video from Matthew Gary explaining a proper squat set-up and walk-out. I had this setup taught to me by my friend Ellen Stein, who learned it from Matt, and I can tell you that I will probably never use anything different.
